| dc.description.abstract | Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina was born on Octobcr 24th 1891 in San Cristóbal, ncar thc ancicnt capital of Santo Domingo, now named Ciudad Trujillo. After having finished his sccondary schooling, the young Trujillo went to the Military Acadcmy of Haína, where he graduated in 1921. In 1924 Irujillo was al rcady a eolonel and chief of the General Staff. Six years later a Brigadier General then. he started taking an active part in politics which has benefited the Rcpublic for 27 years now. One of Trujillo’s first official acts was to introduce a law in congrcss which was to makc primary education compulsory for all Dominicans. Sincc then, he has managed to reduce illitcracy by more than 50 pcrccnt. In the sccond ycar of his term Trujillo saw to it that an Agricultural Redistribulion Law was passed and since 1932 ncarly half a million aeres of farmland have been allotted to former tcnant farmers. | es_es, en_US |
