Resumen
The loss of life and material devastation which follow in the wake of a hurricane is well-known throughout the world, and countries in the Caribbean región have good reason to be particularly conscious of this terrible natural phenomenon. It is the task of the meteorologist to study how hurricanes form and how they move and develop so that he may be better able to predict their onset and, by giving warning to all concerned, to reduce the toll in life and property. In recent years the meteorologist has accumulated much knowledge about hurricanes and has not been slow in using modern techniques such as aircraft reconnaissance and radar to detect their existence and movement. Hurricane warning systems have thus become increasingly effective but much progress still needs to be made before the meteorologist can be satisfied that he is providing a completely effective hurricane warning system.
