Resumen
The principal questions which the survey had to consider were: (1) What is the relation of the Dominican project to the refugee problem as a whole? (2) Is the Dominican Republic a suitable place for refugee settlementr (3) How may refugee immigrants make a living there? (4) How many settlers can the Republic absorb? (5) What will be the effect of the settlement project on the Dominican community? An answer to the first question required a study of the refugee problem in general. This is prcsented in Part I. Part II is a detailed study of the history and the present economic situation of the Dominican Republic itself. To form an idea of the possible future of the refugee colony it was necessary to know something of the history and manner of life of the people among whom the refugees were to scttle. It was equally important to investigate the main features of the country’s economic life and resources, agricultural and industrial production, financial organizaron, and labor conditions.
